When visiting any of Thailand’s revered temples, wats, and sacred sites, it is important to observe a few etiquette guidelines rooted in Buddhist traditions and values. The most fundamental principle? Be respectful and follow the instructions provided.

Modesty: Dress appropriately—no shorts, short sleeves, or short skirts. Women should ensure their shoulders are covered, and yoga leggings are not acceptable.

Avoid Public Displays of Affection: Acts of affection in public are considered immodest and inappropriate in holy places.

Monks: Always maintain a respectful distance from monks. Women should avoid touching, sitting, or standing close to them.

Mind Your Feet: When seated, keep your feet tucked in and pointed away from monks and any images of Buddha.
